Obesity has been officially recognized as a disease by the American Medical Association, A live example is of a teenage boy who became deaf and blind due to overconsumption of fast and processed foods.

As reported in the leading newspaper, a teenager residing in Bristol, suffered irreversible eyesight loss after surviving on fast food like chips, white bread, processed snacks, and meat.

The teenager was a fussy eater from an early age and was never been able to tolerate the fruits and vegetables. This led him to suffer from nutritional optic neuropathy at a teenage age.

What is Nutritional Optic Neuropathy?

Nutritional Optic Neuropathy, also known as deficiency optic neuropathy is a dysfunction of the optic nerve resulting from improper dietary content of certain nutrients essential for the normal functioning of the nerve fibers.

Most commonly, it results from folic acid and vitamin B complex deficiency associated with malnutrition or poor dietary habits.

The boy suffers from an eating disorder called ARFID (avoidant restrictive food intake disorder). Sufferers become sensitive to the taste, texture, smell, and appearance of certain types of food.

This news is a waking alarm for all of us, who treats obesity, as a secondary problem.
